Longing

Posted on Aug 7th, 2009 by Nicole : wakingdreamer Nicole
A heart
A stone
A home.

Break it open to be blinded
By wheeling stars, galaxies, pouring forth
In full song, too much for any
But Love to bear

Sleep
Veil
Wait

In the hope of Love to call out
The intensities, lightning storms, whirlwinds
Laughing in the delight of them all

Have faith
Love
Will come

Melting the bright hard sharp crystals
In the fiery furnace of white-hot compassion and understanding
Transforming the broken-open geode

Into
Its essence
One

Or

Be Love

I have just stumbled upon one of the most beautiful and moving songs,

Kojo no Tsuki- Japanese Folk Song by Rentaro Taki

The version I first loved is
by Anne Akiko Meyers
From the Album Smile

But this one is very lovely too...

Breakfast wonder - my sister's magic recipe

Posted on Aug 16th, 2009 by Nicole : wakingdreamer Nicole
Waterfall
I just got this email from one of my sisters to another, copied to me:

i think i promised you the recipe for budwig cream (the breakfast i've been eating for 10 years that helps support proper immune function)... nicole, i think you might also be interested.

many people around me are interested when i give them the recipe and people like it.

to find out more about its origins you can look up dr. kousmine, who had unusual ideas about the development of degenerative diseases (most, according to her); most of the info is in french. the key ingredient is the flax seed oil.

my basic recipe for budwig cream:

one ripe banana mashed to a pulp
freshly squeezed juice of half a lemon
1 to 2 tblsp flax seed oil
1 to 2 tblsp no-fat fresh white cheese (ie. quark)
4 tblsp freshly milled grains and seeds (details below)

mash the banana.
use the lemon juice to emulsify the oil (beat them together to form a homogenous mixture).
beat in the quark cheese and mix all with the banana.
mix in the freshly milled cereal and seeds.
let sit for 2 to 5 minutes and eat!

add chopped fruits or berries for added goodness and add honey if desired for taste (but sweet enough as is).

this is a raw food and nothing should be cooked, toasted, baked!

this is also a complete food and has all your essential vitamins (including E), with basic protein, low-glycemic carbs, essential fatty acids, and lots of fibre.

this is also a maintenance breakfast meaning it keeps you going all morning!

for the grains and seeds i buy 4 types and premix in a jar. i take out 4 tblsp each time which i then grind. best to use 2 seeds and 2 cereals. the essential seed is flax and i also use sunflower.

flax is important to balance the oil, and the lignins may also help prevent many things including breast cancer. flax and sunflower by far have the highest proportion of the essential omega-3s and this breakfast will provide your daily requirement.

the grains i use are oats (in the form of oat groats, ie. never milled) and millet.

never never use wheat or rye (too hard). i bought a little coffee grinder which i use as a mill and this one has lasted more than 5 years. i think i ruined the last one using sesame seeds....

the cheese has to be no animal-fat to allow absorption of the vegetable oils. i use no-fat yogurt if i can't find the quark and you can use soy but i prefer the quark.

let me know if you end up making it. enjoy.

Breaking news from Sojourners:

We have some exciting news to share! President Obama has accepted Sojourners’ invitation to be on a call with you and other faith activists about what is really going on with health-care reform. The live call and webcast will take place August 19 at 5 p.m. EDT.

RSVP now to be part of this historic call, and receive the call-in number and Web site for the call.

Over the past few weeks, opponents of health-care reform have pulled out all the stops in an attempt to derail substantive debate and conversations. If you are tired of the mysterious ads and fear-mongering emails, then join us for a look at what health-care reform is really trying to accomplish.

The goal of the call is to connect, inform, and energize people of faith across the country who are concerned about health care, and who want to know more so they can be effective advocates in this debate.

We’ll see our current system through the eyes of people across the country, have a chance to hear from White House policy staff, and then hear from the president. It is okay if you don’t know how you feel about plans for reform - get on the call to learn more.

Please share this message with your family, friends, neighbors, and fellow congregation members. Spread the news on your Facebook page andTwitter account.

We expect thousands of people on this call to hear President Obama, so it is important to register ahead of time.

The call with President Obama is part of “40 Days for Health Reform” - an effort led by faith groups across the country to ensure that Congress passes reform legislation that extends quality, affordable health care to every American family. As special interests distort, disrupt, and shut down dialogue across the country, it’s more urgent than ever for people of faith to raise their unique moral witness for health-care reform.

We need honest dialogue about quality, affordable health care for all people - just look at the experiences in your own life. Most of us are just one accident, one unexpected situation away from losing our health insurance. Our country can and should do better.

Join us Wednesday at 5 p.m. - RSVP now.

Party Time - Joie de Vivre avec le choeur Musica Viva!

Posted on Aug 23rd, 2009 by Nicole : wakingdreamer Nicole
We had a wonderful time yesterday at our annual pre-season pool party. It was held at the home of one of the members, who lives very close to the  Parc Maisonneuve:

It felt so good to see everyone again - our concert was in May and so much has happened since then in everyone's life! It was a potluck and like just about every potluck I have ever attended, there was more than enough food and lots of delicious variety.

A special treat for me was to meet the "amie" of one of my favourite choir buddies. He is that unusual and coveted (amongst choral aficionados) entity, a male alto, or countertenor, and she a very funny and vivacious soprano. We could not convince her to join the choir as she is busy with horseback riding lessons on our choir rehearsal day, but we still hold out hope of roping her in at some point in the future.

We talked and laughed, and laughed and talked, and swam in the pool (actually, I didn't swim, just stood around and cooled off and talked lol), and ate, and ate, and talked and laughed.

Our director, Cristian Gort, was in his usual fine form, telling us stories about his five week holiday with his wife and children in their natal Argentina, and generally being the life of the party.

Like all good things, it came to an end sometime after 9 with people slipping away severally, not without the obligatory double-cheek kissing of everyone of course :) I have not been so kissed socially all summer as I was yesterday! LOL!

Now I am really excited about our upcoming season. We will be singing two concerts, one a joint concert with a bunch of other choirs:

For those of you who want a translation, here is the gist:

The choral festival of sacred music is a gathering that has existed for 10 years... Jean-Pierre Guindon is the director. Last year's event at the Saint-Nom-de-Jésus church included more than 400 singers. choristes. This year it will be held on October 3rd and 4th at Saint-

Nom-de-Jésus, Adam Street, Montréal. ...

On the Saturday, we start about 9 a.m. with practice of the joint songs... In the afternoon, the choirs will practice the music for the Sunday mass and the joint songs. On Sunday, the mass will be in the morning, and after lunch, the concert will begin around 2 p.m.

The music we will be singing jointly with the other choirs and the soloist:

Handel's Hallelujah Chorus

Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus

Mozart's Laudate Dominum

Psalm 150: Cesar Franck

A German Requiem, Brahms, the 5th movement

On our own:

Ave Dulcissima Maria - Gesualdo

Nunc Dimittis - Holst

The Christmas repertoire looks enticing too! But more on that later :) That's enough choir nerdiness for now.
