So, as always, fascinating to see the different perspectives.
My lifestyle has not yet changed enough. Yes, I continue to recycle, reuse, try to reduce garbage. But I still drive that car. I still have a very large Carbon Footprint
What to do? How to change, really?
Maybe moving to a smaller community where I can realistically do a lot of errands etc on foot or bike will be part of the answer. Perhaps being with someone who is so whole-heartedly committed to a truly alternative lifestyle will influence me to change further.
I hope so.
I understand there are still those who doubt the validity of climate change. This is a helpful wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change
We cannot know for sure at this time if our efforts will make a difference or if we have already passed the tipping point. But we can at least try, not just for worries of climate change but just because it is far better for our planet.
Such a heartbreakingly beautiful planet, let us cherish her.

Help

Just after I posted this, got the latest from Sojourners - Put Poor people on the Climate Change agenda: http://blog.sojo.net/2009/10/15/must-the-poor-pay-for-our-environmental-sins/#disqus_thread
Namaste, mia Gia, a presto!
Nicole - I like this post! Here's what Ted did (New Zealand) to reduce his family's carbon footprint.
thanks, so helpful, Laurie!
Nicole, your words speak for many. Yes, the beauty of this planet is truly felt in the heart. I'm glad you came by with that link. Laurie.
Nicole,
Oh yes, “heartbreakingly beautiful planet, … cherish her”, yes, I do.
Beautiful photo. There is always room for improvement, eh?, and we just have to keep expanding our understanding, awareness and perception of steps an individual can take that have any kind of impact. Some amount of positive impact is always better than none or negative impacts.
One never knows IF - it is too late, until it IS. I'd rather try now and never find out how close we came or … well, it wouldn't matter anyway. At least my soul would know I cared enough to do what was in my individual ability to do.
May you and your beloved find that sweet little compact community, and find it supporting your every need so beautifully, that you rarely wish to go far enough to need that car. Then, together, the two of you can make a big dent in that carbon footprint.
I know that blessing, I'm hanging out at home and
rarely going farther than my legs can carry me -
Deb

Meenakshi, thank you so much. I do feel very ordinary in this regard, so I hope it is helpful to others.
Deb, you are one of those who inspire me so much, who remind me that there is another way. I really appreciate your support!
J, I just love you so - love you all so. Hugs!
When you are walking 6 inches off the ground and flying through the air with the greatest of ease, I expect you are just about the most environmentally conscious person around! LOL!!!
Love, the new old fuel source!
May your tank always be full!
Ben
wishing you the same Ben! hugs
