Returning to the same dream

Sometimes, like this morning, I wake up and fall asleep often, cycling for a few minutes of each, and every time, return to the same dream. Like shuttling back and forth between two realities :)

Does that happen to you? Or... something else that's even more interesting? :)

(The picture is Sirens Dream by A. Andrew Gonzalez - here for part of his collection)

well, they both felt real, as the dream was not at all lucid, no matter how many times I returned to it. :)

once the dogs sense that I’m up, they won’t allow for me to dream again…it’s time for a walk.

It happens to me often, and sometimes, have to walk slow not even to wake myself from the dream… and watch with fear through the windows, because I know that this sun will take away my dream, slowly… but is so sweet that i do not wish to let it go, but I accept it for the the moment… I know what you mean… I am a Pisces, am always between worlds…

Wonderful photo…

Tom, my cats have tried to get my attention as soon as I awakened too but since I know they don’t need a walk I just ignored them. So they have given up on me and now they let me sleep. :) Though the black cat, Splat, who is usually so fiery, was sweet and cuddly this morning when I conceded wakefulness.

Starchild, I was thinking of your blog and the alternate realities, it’s great to know that you have these kinds of dreams too.

I’ve used A. Andrew Gonzalez’ pictures in other blogs, like Can’t Get It Out of My Head - Electric Light Orchestra
and Duino Elegy 7 - Rainer Maria Rilke
and Listening to Arvo Pärt - Triodion/True Vine/Dopo la Vittoria
and oh! I do love this song! Gregorio Allegri - Miserere mei, Deus - sublime!

I’ve also blogged about him here: A. Andrew Gonzalez - “Transfigurative, Esoteric Art”

A very wise person told me once, that if I had a dreams that troubled me in any form - may it be because I am going in and out of it, or because it scared me in some way - to ask the next time before going to sleep, what am I suppossed to learn from this - the answer always comes.

Blessed Be and Sweet Dreams!

Thanks, Eli!

Claudia, I will try that. I guess I was more curious about the process than anything else, and how common it is. The dream itself seems fairly insignificant. But who knows?

we can learn a lot from our dreams. I find that when I contemplate my dream - it is telling me something in its own peculiar language. I’ve been writing my dreams down for years. They say when one is enlightened one ceases to dream. A dream which repeats itself may be calling for attention to some area of ones life. A dream which continues… mmm I wonder - maybe you’re enjoying it too much to move onto another :) I often find that a series of dreams following on from one another are simple different interpretations of the same thing.

There are times when I try to fall back into the same dream … but for me it rarely happens.  I consider you lucky as I tend to often have dreams that leave me “at the edge of my seat,” and I never know the ending to them.

I’d be lucky if I could make it happen! Like you, when I want to continue the dreams, they usually end.

Thank you Janie! It will be fun to see what they bring tonight. Now, that’s an interesting new icon you have there.

Rachel, I was also admiring your new icon.

If you would indulge my curiosity, where did you two get these icons from and what prompted the switch?

I rarely fall back asleep into the same dream. When that happens, it feels like a gift. Or like there’s something important to learn and thus the dream keeps happening. Consider yourself lucky! (unless it’s a nightmare. in which case you might not feel so lucky. yikes….)

I will definitely feed your curiosity!  The lemon picture I got on a google search & I did so because it is part of a detox tip that another wonderful Gaian gave me! I have had lemon in EVERYTHING since she told me about it… and I really feel a lot better already.  Plus, they’re pretty & smell wonderful!

you find the ‘ending’ out by how you respond in the waking world :)

Sorry, but we are going to stay on the edge of insanity and cruelty  if we do not start talking about what is happening in our reality (which is not an illusion ) and what we can DO about it TOGETHER…my dream is that this world will wake up and take action and be the responsible adults for the children we are supposed to be instead of blowing their heads off…starving them to death, making them drink muddy leech water, and spending 7 dollars for a margarita…when kids have no food. This film has got to start over folks…or our theater may burn down and we wont have seats to fall off of.

unreal they bombed a school today…

I love you Nicole, you are a beautiful soul…an egg is a good place to start.
Thanks to all who help the kids.

Janie, It’s a really disturbing situation, with the Palestinians.

Now I see the connection between your dream and the egg. I really appreciate you sharing that here. We need to keep it front and centre.

Anna, last night the freefloating anxiety I was experiencing before falling asleep translated into disturbing dreams, so the correlation was a lot more obvious than usual. I like what you say about the other part of it, taking action in the real world. Definitely something to keep working on. I love what you are doing in your Walking the Labyrinth; daily practice and new resolutions group, your balance of spirituality, warm love and practicality/action cannot be beat.

Rachel, that they are making you feel better is wonderful news, I guess how lovely they look and smell are just added bonuses, eh? May the trend to good health continue strong and steady!

Kathy, it doesn’t happen that often, but in this case it was kind of fun. I have occasionally been stuck in a scary dream, but thankfully that is even more rare. Dreams are a gift, aren’t they? Good and bad, we can learn so much from them. I keep thinking I should journal but never actually do it.

Edit - isn’t this cool? Bjorn just started a thread on the God Pod called Symbolic Dreams.

Lots of responses here. I guess dreams are popular.

I’m pretty sure I’ve had dreams I return to as I fall back to sleep, but I can’t recall any examples offhand. I do sometimes have repeat dreams or else dreams that have repeating themes or places.

I rarely have any trouble falling asleep again. My cats are usually different than your cats, Nicole. My cats keep me in bed. I’ll wake up and they’ll come over and lay on me. Of course, its my God-given duty to cuddle with my kitties for at least a half an hour before getting up.

For me dreaming and ‘waking life’ cannot be separated. If we look at waking life, there are some pretty nightmarish things going on, as some posts here share. I’ve always looked at dreams as teachers. What we don’t get to in waking, gets to us in dream.

It’s worth looking at the dream and giving thought to, ‘what it’s trying to tell me’. I find the more attention I give my dreams, such as writing them down, giving them thought, the more they speak to me.

There are different types of dreams too - I love the profound ones which give huge sweeping and sometimes prophetic insights. Every now and then I have a dream like that - I wake knowing, ‘this is a big one’. Those dreams ‘wake me up’ to the sense of ’the bigger than little I’ picture

Nicole : wakingdreamer

Yes, exactly Anna! Those big ones are what Bjorn started that thread for us to share, and there are a couple of groups here on Gaia devoted to dreams and interpretations, as you may know.

Ben, your cats are hilarious. Of course, you must cuddle with them LOL!

Rachel, I had another dream I kept going in and out of last night, but it wasn’t a happy one. It was one of those eternal school exam dreams. Now, there are many varieties of this dream, for example, not having studied or attended class.

Last night, though, mine was not a question of preparedness. I felt very confident I could answer the 4 essay questions well. It was other things - at first spending a long time thinking about how I would approach them without writing. And then feeling compelled to write titles for the essays in careful italics. Then losing pencil and paper and even the essay questions and wandering round and round the school looking in all sorts of odd little offices (a professor was sleeping in one :)  ) trying to find what I needed, while people tried to corner me to get help with their essay, I just tried politely to disentangle myself because that would be cheating.

So, what’s this dream trying to tell me? It seems pretty straightforward, doesn’t it?

what do you think the dream is saying, Nicole? Dreams tend to speak to the dreamer - another person can make guesses, which may or may not be accurate. Any interpretation needs to ring true/resonate with the creator of the dream. Which brings me to another thought. Dreams are no different from our waking lives in that we need to take responsibility for them in order to be authentic and empowered

Hi Nicole-dear… You know me to be an avid dreamer and yes, it happens to me too to drift in and out of dreams when waking or even going back to a dream after having been awake briefly. Once it was different than usual though. I have had a terrible dream. Terrible terrible and I woke bathed in cold sweat and frozen inside. I was in Tibet in that cold room wrapped in layers of blankets far away from everything or so it felt that moment and the night was dead silent. I lay awake for several minutes not being able to move. When finally the horror of my dream subsided and I was able to breathe normally again, I eventually drifted back off to sleep. And continued to dream that same dream but a softer version of it, I reversed the horror in my dream (my dad getting murdered) into something still bad but not quite as tragic (my dad survived the attack/accident and was hospitalized). I still woke up feeling terrible the next day. I couldn’t wait for day to break in Europe and I paged my mom to hear if all was fine and she told me my step grandmother had passed away that night.

I love this artwork by A. Andrew Gonzalez Nicole. It is so Beauuuutiful!

I have the same experience of going in and back out of the same dream. So, if I am not fond of the particular dream I have a little ritual. I get out of bed, and go get something sweet. It has to be a favorite cookie or a piece of chocolate. Then I take a long cool drink of water and go back to bed. That seems to move things along when I want to that is.

Otherwise, I stay with it. Sometimes, there is meaning in the dream for me if I contemplate it. Other times, I can’t say it shows me anything I can see very clearly.

I tend to see it as a dream within a dream.

Wonderful!
